On.Energy uses sarcastic designs to help promote the sense of urgency for Energy Transition NOW!
July 23, 2024 PRESS RELEASE
“It’s inspiring to see how some of the best minds across industries are using design to shape our world for the better,” said Brendan Vaughan, editor-in-chief of Fast Company.
The company uses infrastructure capital to build and operate grid-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) for utility clients serving the market’s need for a better, cleaner, resilient source of power. The different target audiences brought a challenge: first, trying to pique the interest of not only the predominantly young audience in the renewables space but also some of the 'old guard' who manage project finance and utility operations. The agency decided to poke fun at the industry's bureaucratic "red tape" and the challenges it poses, using biting sarcasm with dark undertones. The images and the graphics tell the rest of the story in a compelling way. Phrases like "Yadda, Yadda, Yadda," "Don't Panic," and "But it’s a Dry Heat" serve as a universal call to action: ENERGY TRANSITION NOW!
“Our unique approach to branding avoids the typical 'tree hugger' stereotype associated with climate initiatives and instead adopts a more rebellious and rock-and-roll attitude. We focus on providing real, no-nonsense solutions to combat climate change, do it quickly, and have fun,” said Alan Cooper, CEO of On.Energy
On.Energy has consistently marched to a different drumbeat. Since its inception in 2016, the primary focus has been to develop bigger batteries & A.I. software to determine when best to charge and discharge. After cutting its teeth in non-traditional markets throughout Latin America, the company has since expanded its operations into Texas (ERCOT) and California as an Independent Power Producer; developing, building, owning and operating lithium-ion batteries that help stabilize the grid and expand the use of intermittent renewable energy. And yet, as a clean tech scale-up with more than 100 people, there’s a real need to spread the company’s name and its values, its character and culture and its commitment to operational excellence as it seeks to recruit top-tier talent across North America. To achieve these goals, On.Energy sought out Vybe Studio.
Vybe co-founder Vanessa Cooper said, “The success of this re-branding reflects management’s willingness to collaborate, trusting our team to become the creative extension of their values and mission. We lived and worked together with them, and found the unique combination, creating stuff people would enjoy using, from T-shirts to caps to laptop stickers, the response has been incredible.” So much so -- that On.Energy is about to open an on-line store to offer this “merch” to the public, with 100% of the profits going to fund the deployment of battery energy storage units in needy communities in rural Mexico.
